Karađorđe Petrović, the leader of the First Serbian Uprising and founder of Karađorđević dynasty was born here, beneath Oplenac. This town was the center of many historical events during the 18th, 19th and 20th century. Visit to the town and to the memory complex devoted to him. A famous monument of Karađorđe lies in the center of the plateau, surrounded by the remains of Karađorđe fortress with three story towers built between 1811 and 1813; two residences, now museums and the Church of the Birth of the Virgin Mary with iconostasis and frescoes on the walls.
